Share a Partially Furnished 6-acre Oasis 5 mins from Carrboro (Chapel Hill) $600 1bd
Hi!
I'm looking for a subletter (3-6 months) to share a lovely 1940s-era farmhouse 5 minutes from Carrboro on six acres (off Damascus Church Rd.). I've lived in the house for a year and a half and love it dearly. The house has tons of character and antique details, and you can't beat watching the sunset from the rocking chairs on the front porch. If you want to feel like you live in the country but don't want to be way out of town, this is the place for you.
The house is two stories. On the first floor, there are two large bedrooms, a bathroom, a dining room, sizable wood-paneled living room with a working fireplace, and a great kitchen with farmhouse details. Upstairs there are three rooms that I've used as both a guest suite and an office/writing study. There's also a partially finished log cabin on the property that could be used as a writing or reading space.
The house came partially furnished, mostly with solid wood furniture (the charming farmhouse kind), some of which is available to furnish the open bedroom. A dresser, bookcase, and desk could be available for your use in the bedroom, or could be moved to another part of the house if you don't need or want them in the bedroom. The available bedroom also has a closet and two big windows that look out onto the fields surrounding the house. There are usually deer grazing out there, a huge variety of birds, and you'll see foxes in the yard in the springtime. You could not ask for a more picturesque or peaceful setting so close to Chapel Hill/Carrboro. The pictures show the house as it was arranged when I moved in; I've since added furniture, etc.
If you work/study at UNC, the house is a 3-minute drive from the Park and Ride lot on Jones Ferry (CM, CW, JFX routes) and Carrboro Plaza (CPX and CW routes) and a 7-minute drive to the Park and Ride at 15-501/Old Lystra (CCX route) or at Southern Village (NS, V routes).
Amenities include: Internet, washer/dryer, working gas fireplace, central A/C, gas heat, well water, hardwood floors, storage in basement/second floor, parking, hiking/jogging trails.
Utilities to be split: Internet ($24/mo), electric (~$30-40/mo), gas (varies by season).
I'm a freelance writer/editor who sometimes works at home, so would prefer a roommate who either works full-time or also needs a quiet workspace during the daytime. In the evenings, I like to cook, get together with friends, go to yoga class, and this winter/spring I'm training for a marathon.
You'd also be sharing the house with a small, sweet indoor cat. (I'm sorry, but the terms of my lease prohibit any additional pets at the moment.) This is a non-smoking house.
If you're interested, please email with a little bit about yourself, your timeline, and when you might be available to come check out the house. The room could be available by 1/15. Thanks and good luck with your housing search.
