We are going on sabbatical to NYC or San Francisco/Berkeley for the academic year 2013-14 and would like to swap our beautiful 4 bedroom (or 3 bed/1 study) with solar heated pool in the desirable San Felipe del Agua, Oaxaca. We are a British/Mexican family Mexican Anthropologist and British Clinical Psychologist and with 2 wonderful daughters aged 15 and 10 years of age.
We are also happy to rent it to someone coming from a different corner of the world!
We are experienced swappers and the people who have swapped to or rented our house have been enthralled by our house (which we have rented up to a year) and by Oaxaca (although I know this was controversial, even Obama sent his daughter here earlier this year!!). Our beautiful home is very spacious with 3 bedrooms and one office and is also very comfortable with all mod cons and conveniences; our full time maid would also be here to help you with cooking, cleaning and pre arranged baby sitting which means you really can relax and enjoy yourselves! We also have an 11 meter solar heated pool at the end of the garden
Oaxaca is a popular spot for foreigners and Mexicans of the year long wonderful climate, glorious mountains and the fascinating cultural surroundings, museums, restaurants, exciting markets, hiking etc. Our house is situated in San Felipe del Agua, the most desirable residential area of Oaxaca because it is situated in the mountains yet only a 15 minute bus ride into the heart of town where you find colourful markets, museums, shops and museums etc, meaning that a regular car rental is not necessary. San Felipe is beautiful and quiet and is also where the water of Oaxaca originates. Mountains for hiking, biking and bird watching are just up the road.
The house is set back 40 metres from the road so it is peaceful. You pass by donkeys at the corn grinder where people come to make dough for fresh tortillas; our neighbour will be happy to provide with this delicious local food on a daily basis. The bus into town (which runs 7 days a week) is less than a 5 minute walk away from the house; and schools, popular with foreigners, are also within walking distance so a car is not necessary.
Our house offers 4 large bedrooms (the one downstairs is our library/study) with its own entrance, a modern kitchen with a new 6 burner stove, big fridge, dishwasher etc., an enormous inviting lounge/dining room with high wooden beamed ceiling. Both kitchen and living room lead onto a spacious roofed terrace with, hammock etc and garden, with our new solar heated pool with its terrace. The house also has a terrace and balcony upstairs and has wonderful views to the mountains and valleys of Oaxaca. The house is 2 blocks from the San Felipe del Agua Church and its square which has market days on Tuesday and Friday, a local lending library and a 5 star hotel on the corner and another beautiful restaurant with a playground that even has helpers to look after your young ones while you enjoy your meal.
Our daily home helps comes in for 8 hours a day, Monday to Friday, and is a fantastic cook and helps with clearing, washing, baby sitting at very reasonable rates.
We have high speed wireless internet in the house.
We are a British/Mexican couple who have lived in San Felipe for the past 13 years and have rented our own home for the academic year 2006-7. The house we offer is our home. Sergio is an anthropologist and musicologist; Judith is a clinical psychologist and painter. She adores Oaxaca for the great painting themes and light it offers. Sofia and Olivia our two wonderful daughters are respectively 15 and 10 years old.
I should mention that the last time we went on sabbatical in 2005-6 in we rented to a wonderful couple and daughter from NYC who tried to convenience us to stay away another year. We have become friends since and I am sure they would be happy to vouch for our house, Oaxaca and so on as they did end up staying another year as our neighbours.
N.B. The rental includes gas and electricity.
NB the price shown if per night based on a year long rental which comes to $3,000 per month
